30 Countries Are Refusing To Take Back Illegal Immigrants Convicted Of Serious Crimes
Approximately 30 countries are refusing to accept the deportations of illegal immigrants who have committed serious crimes in the U.S., according to Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar. -- While these countries are refusing to accept the deportations of these criminals, the U.S. government is still issuing visas and student visas to citizens of those countries, according to the Texan congressman. There is already a law on the books which allows the U.S. to hold visas from a country that is not taking back its criminals, but according to Cuellar, the U.S. is not enforcing it.......

Florida changes course on immigration policy
Just three years after Florida's Republican leadership approved cheaper college tuition for non-citizens, President Donald Trump has realigned the state's immigration debate and GOP lawmakers are moving in the opposition direction. -- The heated immigration rhetoric from the presidential campaign is echoing across Florida's Capitol as state officials debate legislation designed to crack down on immigrants who do not have legal status. -- "At the end of the day Donald Trump won and he won on a strong immigration platform," said state Rep. Joe Gruters, a Sarasota Republican who is sponsoring one of the immigration bills and co-sponsoring two others. "We're a nation of laws and here in Florida we're no different; people have to respect the rule of law."......

Joe Guzzardi on sanctuary cities
The Center for American Progress (CAP), a Washington, D.C., think tank Hillary Clinton's former campaign manager John Podesta founded, has released a new report that puts the total of sanctuary cities and counties at about 600, roughly twice previous estimates. -- Since President Donald Trump's inauguration, the mayors of the nation's largest sanctuary cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco, have taken more insolent stances to defend harboring criminals. North Carolina Committee Passes Anti-Sanctuary Enforcement Bill
The North Carolina House Judiciary Committee voted 6-5 last week to advance House Bill 63 (HB 63), otherwise known as the “Citizens Protection Act of 2017”, to strengthen the state's existing anti-sanctuary law. Former Governor Pat McCrory ® signed the anti-sanctuary law in 2015, which took a stand against sanctuary policies that limit or prohibit law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities and prohibit law enforcement from inquiring into the immigration status of individuals in custody. These policies, which proponents argue are meant to foster “trust” with law enforcement in immigrant communities, are often designed to protect criminal aliens from detection and removal from the United State. North Carolina's 2015 law fell short by failing to include penalties to cities that choose to unlawfully maintain such policies......

Trump wants to build 30-foot-high wall at Mexican border

The proposals are due to the government by March 29. ......

Online poll: Should Sonoma declare itself a sanctuary city?
No quarter. That's what the majority of respondents to our latest poll were giving when we asked readers whether Sonoma should declare itself a “sanctuary city,” joining about 400 other municipalities in the United States who've vowed not to actively work with immigration officials in any efforts to deport non-violent undocumented residents. -- About 52 percent of the responses nixed the idea, which some pointed out could result in a withholding of future grant funds linked to immigration enforcement......
